SPECIAL European "Transcontainer" rates for international containers up to 40 ft. in length moving by rail between Le Havre and key rail centres in Italy and Switzerland, are now effective. The rates, which have been converted from gold francs into sterling and published by Thoresen Ferries, cover nine centres in Italy and 12 in Switzerland.
Under the new rates a 20 ft. container load from Le Havre costs £55 to Basle; £58 to Geneva; £84 to Milan and £117 to Rome. The charges are considerably lower than this when two or more containers are despatched together (to send two 20 ft. containers to Milan costs only £112) and there is a reduction of over 50 per cent for e-147)0.,,..
