• Derbyshire coal hauliers and skip-hire operators Richard and Steven Troth, trading as GS Hepworth, have been warned that further maintenance failures will mean severe disciplinary action against their licence. When they appeared before North Western Deputy Traffic Commissioner Mark Hinchliffe he cut their authorisation from 18 vehicles and four trailers to 15 vehicles.

Vehicle examiner Ted Fearns said that since 1994 five immediate and four delayed prohibitions had been imposed on the firm's vehicles and it had received two warnings. Recent visits had shown an improvement but the driver defect reporting system needed monitoring. Hinchliffe warned that if the firm wanted any future increase in authorisation it would have to prove its maintenance was of a high standard.
