DEMANDS for the Minister of Transport to restrict the use of minor roads by heavy vehicles were made in the Commons this week. But Mr. Tom Fraser pointed out that local authorities already have powers to prohibit or restrict the use of roads, other than trunk roads, by heavy vehicles.
Mr. Fraser also refused to provide subsidies for Scottish public transport, similar to ones he is giving in London. He also turned down a suggestion that he should extend the undertaking he gave about public transport fares in London to all transport services in the country "pending the application of a balanced transport policy ".
