THE PEDESTRIANS Association has welcomed the GLC's lorry ba proposals.
The Association secretary, Felicity Rea, said that as 45 per cent of all trips in urban areas are made on foot, it has a particular concern for walkers in towns and cities.
Although the Association realises that road haulage essential to the economy, M Rea said, more use should I made of rail and waterways.
The Association believes tl transfer of freight to smal vehicles is possible with prop facilities for bulk-break deo( outside London.
If a ban were to be introducE Mrs Rea said, it would be beti to be experimental, so that i dustry and commerce shoL have time to adapt and calcula the success of failure of tl policy.
