• Chris Beckett becomes Mintex Don commercial vehicle products manager, responsible for marketing the Don an Mintex brands of brake linings for trucks and buses. Beckett trained as a motor engineer and spent a period as marketing co-ordinator for the Automotive Products Autela Division.

• Jim Smith, with Bass for five years, responsible for the maintenance of 4,500 vehicles, is to head the expanded Bass Vehicle Inspectorate which is "to expand into outside companies".

• Clive Ainsley has relinquished his position as deputy director of the Motor Agents Association on his appointment as director-general of the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association.

• David Smith, 35, for two years southern regional manager for Dunlop Adhesives, now heads the industrial sales force of the Birmingham-based company. Ten sales representatives reporting to him include new appointees David Shaw, 25 (five counties in central England) and Steve Wright, 29 (Wilts, Avon and SW).
