Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• New direct express coach services between Nottingham and Bournemouth and Portsmouth were approved last week by the East Midlands Traffic Commissioners.

Mr. A. C. Rothera, for Associated Motorways, which will operate the services, said the new arrangements would benefit travellers while harming no one. The services would be a direct Saturdays-only run from Nottingham to Bournemouth, and to Portsmouth during the summer, This arrangement would help an increasing number of Nottingham passengers who, at the moment, had a link-coach service via Northampton to the Southern centres.

Objections to the applications had been lodged by Barton Transport Ltd. of Chilwell which runs a Nottingham-LeicesterBournemouth-Southsea summer service, but these were withdrawn.
