Lenham Storage goes for 10 longer semis
Lenham Storage has taken delivery of 10 new Lawrence David curtainsider longer semi-trailers – six 14.6m-long, with self-steer rear axles, and four 15.65m-long fitted with command-steer rear axles. Commercial manager Steve Hall says: “We are constantly looking at ways to increase efficiency and reduce costs.”
SDC trailers help Premier increase efficiency
Pall-Ex member Premier Logistics has taken delivery of 15 SDC triaxle, curtainsider trailers and is awaiting delivery of 10 more. The 25 trailers are a mix of step-frame, double-deck curtainsiders, 4.2m-high singleand double-deck curtainsiders and 4.5m-high curtainsiders. Lee Christopher, MD at the Leicester-based operator, says: “We are always looking at ways to increase efficiency and drive customer service in our business. The new trailers will give us greater load flexibility and operational advantages.”
Watch out! It’s the Grim Sweeper
An unusual Volvo FM road sweeper equipped with a Globetrotter cab and a host of driver comforts has entered service with Devon firm Brooking Hire. Dubbed the Grim Sweeper, the 11-litre 330hp FM is fitted with Johnston VT800 bodywork and will work at Royal Naval Air Station in Cornwall, tidying up runways and taxi-ways. Owner Martin Brooking says: “Unlike most sweeper operations where drivers leave a depot in the morning and are home in the afternoon, ours requires that drivers are away for days or even weeks at a time.”
It’s all about the extra length for PW Gates
Pallet-Track member PW Gates Distribution has taken delivery of a new Lawrence David 15.65m double-deck longer semi, which it says will increase its payload by 20% and cut costs through increased opera tional efficiency. The trailer has an overall height of 4.88m, with wraparound rear curtains to maximise rear access capabilities. Business development director Chris Lynch says: “Every operation is different but, in the long term, 13.6m trailers will virtually disappear from our roads.”
