Eastleigh magistrates heard how administrative errors led to the truck, owned by Heanor Haulage of Langley Mill, Nottingham, being overloaded by nearly 50%.

The firm, which has four previous convictions for overloading, was fined 11,500 with £200 costs. The court heard that the vehicle was steppe while carrying the Warrior APCs from Marchwoo military port to Tidworth. Checks found the truc to be 48,400kg, nearly 50% over its plated weigf of 33,000kg.

But defence counsel said the overload ha resulted from an administrative error. The Yoh tractor, which has a design weight of 44,000k had been downplated to save VED costs—th semi-trailer was capable of carrying 80,000kg.
