Is Unless you are involved in buying after-market truck exhaust systems, the chances are you may not have heard of Dines before this year's Commercial Vehicle Show. It is In fact one of Europe's leading makers of replacement exhausts, founded in 1982 by Dane Jargon Dinesen. Its eight-year old UK operation is based in the shadow of the Thelwall Viaduct near Warrington, and, besides a comprehensively stocked warehouse, it also houses a growing R&D workshop and computer aided design facility. As well as standard replacement exhausts for most commercial vehicles from large vans upwards, Dines produces its "VIP" range of vertical stack systems with a choice of finishes and is currently taking the first steps towards entering the original equipment market, offering 'turbo to tailpipe" systems for truck builders, particularly those making relatively low volume bespoke vehicles.

Its move into the "green" market has not been a sudden impulse. For some years it has been developing its own particulate technology. the Dinex ECR (electrochemical reactor). This device, which counts among its benefits the ability to operate at much lower temperatures and to survive on higher sulphur fuels than current systems, is expected to be fully revealed within months. But apart from this new system, it has also been working on various projects with Engelhard, one of the two major suppliers of the precious metal technology used in existing particulate filters. When Engelhard's relationship with Wasey dissolved, it was a logical move for Dines to step into the picture. The results of the new pairing were first seen publicly at the NEC earlier this year. DinesEngelhard DPX particulate filters are now available in a full range of applications, including traditional silencers, drum-type bins and vertical stacks.
