The driver can change from petrol to LPG using a switch to the lett of the steering column. There is no LPG gauge on the dash: instead the driver has to rely on the five green lights next to the switch. On the road the change from petrol to LPG is seamless and pick-up from a standing start is the same with both fuel systems.

The most interesting concept is the 4x4 panel van, which is undergoing roadtests. Daihatsu is keen to add this to its UK range and is evaluating its market potential.

The vehicle has the same four-wheel drive running gear used in the Daihatsu Terios 4x4 including a permanent 50/50 4x4 transmission transfer case with a diff-lock switch fitted on the dashboard. Daihatsu sees it at as a viable option to larger 4x4s but with a lighter kerbweight and lower price tag.

We took it through an off-road circuit at the MIRA proving ground and it handled well, albeit in dry conditions,
