Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AS CM went to press earlier this week ferry operators were using ports in Belgium and the Netherlands to avoid French ports blockaded by protesting French fishermen.

P & 0 Ferries were offering sailings from Dover and Southampton to Zeebrugge while Irish Continental Lines from Rosslare, were attempting to dock in France as usual, but were then diverting to Rotterdam. Before driving vehicles to Rosslare for departure, the company was advising operators to check first for the latest news on crossings.

Sealink was also offering sailings from Dover and Folkestone to Ostende while Brittany Ferries said that crossings from Portsmouth to St Malo were being diverted along the Brittany coast to Roscoff. European Ferries were unavailable for comment as we went to press.

The Road Haulage Association was keeping a close eye on the situation and were keeping in touch with ferry operators and the International Road Transport Union. TIR traffic would presumably be allowed to use ports other than those mentioned on documentation, said executive officer Bob Duffy_
