PLANS for unconventional bus services in Dunbartonshire look like being implemented next month when Garelochhead Coach Services close down.

Greater Glasgow PTE confirmed this week that it is still negotiationg with Frank Phipps Motors of Helensburgh, which has proposed some innovative routes in the area, but said that Phipps plans still await final approval by Strathclyde Rgional Council.

Phipps is in the process of buying eight suitable vehicles — four full-size 11m single-deckers, two 30 to 35-seat midibuses, and two minibuses. All will be one-man operated.

Phipps' proposals for an unsubsidised group of services involve retention of the basic Garelochhead stage services, but with smaller buses being used to penetrate hitherto unserved housing estates. The Council and PTE are looking at such possible extensions as a shoppers' service to Stirling.
