FORD CUTS VAN PRICES PRICES of Ford light vans were reduced on Monday as follows:5-cwt. chassis with windscreen from £168 to £160; 5-cwt. van (primer) from £205 to £195; 10-cwt. chassis from £220 to £209: 10-cwt. chassis with cab fittings from £251 to "£238; 10-cwt. van (primer) from £285 to £271. These prices apply to the home market.

Reductions have also been made in the prices of Fordson agricultural tractors and implements.

Sir Rowland Smith, deputy chairman of the Ford Motor Co., Ltd., stated last Friday that the reductions were the company's answer to the Government's appeal for lower prices. In the export market prices had been cut by amounts ranging from £7 to £16.

Speaking at the company's annual general tneeting, Lord Perry of Stock Harvard, K.B.E., LL.D., chairman, said that it was a matter of extreme urgency that the ban on extensions at the Dagenham works be removed at the earliest possible date.

In the next few years the company would be faced with a large modernization programme: Much of the machinery and equipment would be purchased in this country, but Lord Perry declared that where advanced" production practice abroad demanded the importation of equipment and machinery, even from a hard-currency country, no obstacle should be placed in the way of import permits.

EVERLASTING LUBRICANT

A LUBRICANT that will last for the "-litre of a vehicle was described by Professor Stacey at the 70th birthday celebrations of the Institute of Chemistry in Birmingham last week. The new lubricant, which is a product of fluorine, a green gas, has been known for 80 years, but it has been difficult to develop because its reactions were unpredictable. It is claimed that fluorine displaces the hydrogen in the

A22 hydro-carbons that form the base of all lubricants.

By eliminating the hydrogen the oils are made non-inflammable. Provided that an efficient oil filtration system is employed, the oil could last the lifetime of the vehicle, as it will not burn and, unless permitted to leak away, will not reduce in quantity.

Professor Stacey commented: ' As scientists, we feel frustrated because Britain cannot develop the new lubricant commercially for another 12 months."

CAR HIRE CONCESSION AS from May 1, certain visitors to this country will be able to hire taxicabs or cars for journeys of more than 20 miles from the places where the vehicles are ordinarily kept. M.P.T.A. TO ASK FOR MORE M.P.T.A. TO ASK FOR MORE

. STOPS?

A SUGGESTION that the Municipal E-1 Passenger Transport Association be asked to approach the Minister-of Transport with a request for relaxation of the Order restricting the number of bus stops was made at a recent meeting of Halifax Town Council.

Coun. Bower, chairman of the passenger transport committee, said that the committee wished to restore as many stops as possible,. but it was subject to the jurisdiction of the Licensing Authority. He thought that the best course was to ask the M.P.T.A. to approach the Minister on the whole question of restrictions on bus stops.
