• Investigations are continuing this week into the "inefficiencies" of a traffic examiner who is being studied for his role in the alleged stalling of prosecutions against law breakers in his traffic area.
Following a meeting last week between the officer and senior management in his area, investigations are to continue over why some cases against operators have escaped prosecution because proceedings against them were not started in time (CM
15-21 Oct). A source in the traffic area said this week: "Some of the items require deeper investigation although no disciplinary action has been taken."
It is understood that over a two-year period around 80 operators were let off the hook through the delays. The traffic area says they represent only a "fraction" of the traffic examiners office's output.
The traffic area management have also looked into the officer's alleged close social ties with a senior member of a national road transport operator.
It is understood they say they are "fairly content" there is nothing sinister with the contact although the officer has since been "advised to steer clear of personal contact with operatore.
