THE Transport Tribunal in London last week decided that it was in order for Siddle C. Cook Ltd., of Consett, Co. Durham, to have two steerable dollies on A licence.
The matter was raised on appeal against a decision of the Northern Licensing Authority by the Transport Holding Company.
Giving the Tribunal's decision, the president, Mr. G. D. Squibb, said that in January last year on the renewal of its A licence, Cook's had asked for an additional 12-ton tractor, a 22-ton low.: loader and two steerable dollies for carrying loads of exceptional weight and dimensions.
The Licensing Authority refused to
grant the tractor and low-loader, but granted the dollies, which were required to carry heavy loads which had previously been carried less efficiently on two other trailers.
The basis of the appeal was that by adding the dollies to Cook's fleet, the company had been placed in the position of being able to carry heavy loads on the dollies and also on the existing trailers, said Mr. Squibb.
"We see no reason to disbelieve Mr. Cook's evidence. We accept that the basis of this application was to enable them to carry these heavy loads in a safer and more efficient manner ", said Mr. Squibb.
