VY •of -the public ", declared Mr_ K. Holmes, assistant traffic manager of Northern General Transport, at a sitting of the Northern Traffic Commissioners at Durham on Tuesday. He was giving evidence in opposition to a move by Durham County Council to have two services re-routed.

The Council wanted the Langley Park Motor Co. service between Langley Park and Durham and the Northern General Transport service between Delves Lane and Durham switched on to a new 883-yd. road on the outskirts of Durham City. The Council put this request when the two companies applied to continue operating the services on the present Mr. J. L. R. Croft, for the companies, said that the County Council seemed unaware of the fact that the provision of public service vehicles and the operation of road service licences was to give facilities to the public. Mr. Croft said that in many years, there had been only one accident involving a bus on the old road.

The Traffic Commissioners granted the companies' application.
