Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

APLAN for the Institute of the Motor Trade to co-operate in road. accident prevention by initiating the organization of a corps of road-safety wardens recruited from former air-raid wardens, was discussed at the recent annual meeting of the Yorkshire Regional Committee at Scarborough.

The plan was put forward by the Yorkshire Region's new chairman, Mr. C. F. Lawrence King, immediate past chairman of the -I.M.T.' Sheffield Centre. The national, • regional and centre machinery of the I.M.T., he suggested, could_ materially assist in the organization of ex-Civil Defence workers as road-safety wardens. He felt that such wardens would be particularly valuable in the safeguarding of children against road accidents. He had already outlined the idea to the Minister of War Transport, who, in reply, had expressed readiness to give the plan all the support within his power.

On the suggestion of Mr. Herbert Gledhill, 'of the Leeds Centre, it was

agreed to explore possibilities for the holding of a two-day conference of members of the Yorkshire Region, in conjunction with . the next annual meeting .of the Institute's Yorkshire_ Regional Committee.

Following Mr. King's election to the regional chairmanship, an office whichfor .three 'successive years has been filled by Mr.. Richards, the retiring chairman was elected deputy chairman. As he is now resident in London, Mr. Richards was, for this purpose, co-opted to ttie regional committee.
