THE WELL-KNOWNFrench makers, Che,nard Walcker, are making and marketing a light tractor drawing .a trailer for heavy haulage. The method of pivoting the forward end of the trailer bar to the bauling standard on the•tractor permits of the carrying of a certain .portion of the load on the rear wheels of the tractor, so as to adjust the weight in oiler to secure the right amount -of adhesion for tractive purposes. The vehicle isclaimed to be extremely easy to manoeuvre, and a load of four tons can be readily transported over any condition

of 'road. .

. The chassis of. the tractor. is strong. and well made, having a wheelbase of 7 ft: , 6 ins. The engine is four-cylindered, the dimensions of the eylindeis being SO mm. by 150 mm. and power is transmitted through a four-speed gearbox and propeller shaft to the live rear axle. The rear wheels are equipped with twin tyres, -pneumatic tyres, 880 mm. by 120 mm., being employed on all wheels of the vehicle.. The trailer has a platform 15 ft. 5 ins. in length by 6 ft. 7 ins, in width. Its wooden artillery wheels are expipped with 850.mro. by 140 mm. band tyres, the axles are strongly reinforced, and the brakes on the rear wheels are operated by the driver of the tractor.

The prices for these vehicles as offered by the sole concessioianaires, A. Lagache, R. Glasznaann and Co., 124, AVenue Victor Hugo, Paris, are 17,800 francs for the tractor, and 7,300 francs' for the trailer, these being the prices for delivery at the works in Paris.

In the accompanying photograph, the trailer bar will be seert connected to a vertical shaft held irt.a, strongly forged th-bracket, the-shaft being threaded andy carrying a nut, the forward end of the trailer bar being clamped to theniat. At the top of the • vertical shaft is a hand wheel for rotating it, so moving the nut up or -chiwn, transmitting more or less of the pressureborne on the front -wheels through the trailer bar on to the rear wheels of the tractor,
