AAccording to the latest Highway Statistics issued by the then Ministry of Transport (now DoE) the figures for the number of vehicle registrations in 1969 were:
Private cars 11.227,700 Motorcycles 1,222,600 Buses and coaches including trolleybuses 79,080 Taxis 22,500 Goods vehicles 1.563,520 Other vehicles including tractors and Government-owned vehicles 636,400
