BECAUSE of the present economic position and the effect of certain financial measures and Government pro

posals ". negotiations between Mr. Frank B. Ford and the Ulster Transport Authority regarding the transfer of the Authority's Duncrue Street workshops, have been suspended.

The final discussion took place last week when Mr. Ford met the chairman and representatives of the U.T.A. and thc Minister of Development for Northern Ireland, Mr. Ford then explained that it was impracticable for him to go ahead with the proposals for purchase on the basis of the original plan. A statement issued later to the Press ,said that the Authority was making endeavours in every direction in an effort to secure as much work as possible for the shops.

Discussions between the two parties started before the Labour Government came into power and details were reported in Tire Commercial Motor on November 20 last. The intention was that the chief engineering workshops and offices at Duncrue Street. near the centre of Belfast. would be taken over by a new company of which Mr. Ford would be chairman. Employing a staff of 600, Duncrue Street is equipped to deal with all classes of road transport engineering. Mr. Ford is sales director of Plaxtons (Scarborough) Ltd.
