Association last week. Mr. W. M. Little was unanimously elected a vice-chairman of the Council in the place of Mr. M. A. Holmes, following his resignation on taking up the appointment of chairman of London Transport Board. Mr. W. M. Little, who is chairman of Scottish Bus Group Ltd., has been a member of the Council of the Association since 1951 and he is currently a vice-president of the Institute of Transport.

Mr. Donald Stokes has succeeded Sir William Black as chairman of A.E.C. Ltd. Mr. John Rowley has been appointed deputy chairman in addition to his position as general manager. Mr. Stokes, who is the deputy chairman and managing director of the Leyland Motor Corporation, is also chairman of Standard-Triumph International Ltd., Leyland Motors Ltd, and Albion Motors Ltd., and a number of the Corporation's overseas companies. Stewart and Ardern announce the following appointments: Mr. L. J. Bartrick as divisional manager of the commercial vehicle division; Mr. S. J. B. Bateman as manager at the commercial vehicle branch, Wembley, Middlesex; Mr. S. B. Miners as manager at the commercial vehicle branch, Camberwell, London, S.E.5; Mr. H. Jones and Mr. R. P. Gregory as sales eectitives.

Mr. E. Bruce Knee recently retired from Ferodo Ltd. after 40 years' service with the company. His first 10 years with Ferodo were as a London-based representative dealing with commercial vehicle manufacturers. At present Mr. Knee is in his second term as chairman of the council of the Institute of the Motor Industry.

Mr. Dennis R. Heddon has been appointed general sales manager of Maw Knox Ltd., of Rochester, Kent. New appointments affecting Rootes Motors' board of directors and .certain senior executive posts have been announced. Sir Reginald Rootes has been elected chairman in succession to the late Lord Rooks. The second Lord Rootes (formerly the Hon. Geoffrey Rootes) becomes deputy chairman and continues as managing director of Rootes Motors Ltd. The group will be administered in three operating divisions with divisional managing directors as follows: Mr. B. G. Rootes (overseas operations and home distributing companies): Mr. T. D. Rootes (passenger car division); and Mr. R. Watson-Lee (commercial vehicle division), who continues as managing director of Commer Cars Ltd. Mr. J. T. Panks, now vice-president and nianaging director of Rootes Motors inc., New York, becomes managing director of the export division, Rootes Ltd.. with effect from about March 1. Mr. M. A. Freshney, now managing director of Rootes Motors(Canada) Ltd., becomes managing director of Rooks Motors Inc., New York, with effect from about March 1. Mr. E. J. B. Mackie, now an executive in Rootes Motors Inc., New York, becomes managing director of Rootes Motors (Canada) Ltd., with effect from about March 1. Mr. G. R. Hartwell becomes managing director, home division, Rootes Ltd., with immediate effect. Mr. G. W. Rossiter, at present director of Rootes Ltd. and general manager, home division, remains a director of Rootes Ltd., and joins the headquarters staff as administra'five director, with immediate effect.

Mr. Tom Batiks received gifts from the management and staff of Central S.M.T. Co., Motherwell, recently, when he retired after 50 years in public transport— broken only by three years in the Army during the First World War. Mr. Banks, who began work with the Lancashire Tramways Co. in 1914, served in a supervisory capacity with Central S.M.T. until his retirement.

Mr. Albert E. Carter has been appointed manager of Blackpool Ontnibus Stations Ltd. in charge of the Coliseum Coach Station. Aged 41. Mr. Carter, a senior inspector with Ribble Motor Services Ltd, at Blackpool. succeeds Mr. H. G. Hartley.

Mr. Alan Hess, controller of group public relations for Simms Motor and Electronics Corporation Ltd., has been presented with a silver medal by the pageant master of the Lord Mayor's Show, Mr. H. G. Marley, for his work in publicizing the show. '1 'he Atkinson Group announces more executive changes following the death of Mr. B. Francis Count and the appointment of Mr. P. M. Yates to succeed him as managing director of Atkinson Vehicles Ltd., Preston (announced last week). Mr. A. W. Allen has been appointed to the new post of deputy chairman of the parent company,

Mr. E.: D. Green, 45, succeeds Mr. Yates as general manager of Atkinson Vehicle's at Preston. He joined Atkinson Vehicles as a technical representative six years ago and has been works manager at Preston since 1961.. Mr. S. Eden-Smith, previously, sales manager of Atkinson Vehicles (London) Ltd., has been appointed .sales director at Preston with effect from February ), when Mr. J. M. Machines leaves for Australia to take up an appointment as managing director of the Atkinson Group subsidiaries there. He is at present safes director of Atkinson Vehicles and will relinquish his seat on the boards of both the Preston and Airdrie companies.

Mr. W. H. Lawrence has been appointed sales director of MetropolitanCammell-Weymann Ltd., following the resignation of Mr. W. R. Gordon from the company. Mr. Lawrence is dready a director of both M.C.W, and We)rnann'S Ltd., and previously had been manager of the latter company.

Mr. Geoffrey J. Morgan has been appointed depot manager of the Lucas Sales and Service depot at Acton Vale. London, W.3. He succeeds Mr, Tim Knott, who recently left the company tc take appointment with Grantura Engineering Ltd.

'Mr. Lund, a Pertrith (Cumberland) haulier, was 55 and he ran -a fleet of 10 long-distance lorries under the name of G. and E... Lurid. The business will he carried on by Mrs. Lund, who was his partner, and their son Malcolm Lund,
