Diameter of the hydraulically actuated lutch is 12 in. for the Six 305 unit, 11 in. for the petrol engine and 13 in. for the R6 and Leyland engines. Fivespeed constant-mesh gearboxes are fitted to all the chassis, identical ratios being used with all except the Leyland engine.

Spiral-bevel rear axles are standard.

Model 3187 has a 6.14 to 1 reduction, whilst the 3187? is offered either with this ratio or .5.57 to 1 gearing. The heavier chassis have 6.16 to 1 or 4.78 to 1 axles. All models are optionally available with two-speed axles.

Frame construction is conventional and provides a flat top to simplify body mounting. For the lighter chassis,

maximum side-member depth is 8126 The members have 34-in. flanges and are pressed from 1-in.-thick material. Eight cross-members are employed. Nine cross-members are used for the longwheelbase models, which have 10-in.deep side members, 5T, in. thick, with 3-in. flanges.

The semi-elliptic, laminated-leaf rear springs on all the chassis are 60 in. long, 3 in. wide and are assisted by telescopic dampers. Two extra leaves are fitted in the springs of the heavier chassis. The 50-in.-long front springs are similarly damped and are V., in. wide on the lighter models and 3 in. wide on the -others.

Vacuum-assisted braking for the 3187 and 3187P is by tandem Hydrovac acting on a lining area of 391 sq. in., and on the 3190R and 3190Y by a 9-in.diameter 'Hydrovae, the lining area in this case being 480 sq. in. Both systems incorporate two-leading-shoe units at the front wheels. Air-hydraulic braking is available as an option on the heavier vehicles.

Three-piece wheels carry 8.25-20-in. (10-ply) tyres on the 81-ton-gross models and 8.25-20-in. (12-ply) equipment on the 18-ft.-wheelbase vehicles, which can be supplied with 9.00-20-in. (10-ply) tyres at extra cost.
