AN application by G. A, Glendinning, Ltd., Shotley Bridge, County Durham. to operate a car transporter under B licence, which had previously been adjourned by Mr. J. A. T. Hanlon, Northern Licensing Authority, because 'certain objectors in the Coventry area had not been informed of the date of the hearing, was granted. by Mr. G. W. Duncan, Deputy Licensing Authority, at Newcastle upon Tyne, last week.

Mr.. T. H. Campbell Wardlaw, for the applicants. told Mr.. Duncan that the case had been heard at . some leagth (The , Corropercial Motor, January. 15) and. Mr. Hanlon had directed that his clerk should contact the road objectors. This had been done, and Mr. Wardlaw understood • that they had withdrawn.

DiScussions had taken place between his clients and representatives -of British, Railways, said Mr.. .Wardlaw. He was instructed to say that, provided the work undertaken by the transporter was only for concerns ,who had given supporting evidence, objection by the railways

Would be withdrawn. .

HAULIERS COULD BE UNDERCUT BY GARDENER? ,

IF. a landscape garde.ner and builders' merchant were granted a B licence, he would be able to undercut the rates of genuine hauliers, Mr. J. A. Dunkerley 'told .Mr. A. H. Jolliffe, North Western Deputy Licensing Authority, on Tuesday. Mr. _ Dunkerley was representing two hauliers who objected to an application by Mr. D. W. Clark, Wilmslow, for a B licence for a vehicle of 2+ tons.

The applicant wished to carry building materials and landscape-gardening equipment within 10 miles' of base, and submitted 10 letters from builders and gardeners who complained that there were inadequate haulage facilities in the area. The vehicle concerned was

• currently under C licence, and Mr. Clark had been asked many times to carry small loads for them. ••

Mr. I A. Lewis, builders, said that he had not approached the objectors for transport as they worked for big organizations and were not capable of dealing with small special loads. The applicant, he said, should be able to carry small loads much more cheaply than any haulier.

The application was granted in respect of the equipment, but building materials were r-ccluded.
