Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE contract under which the Meat Transport Organization, Ltd., have operated since the beginning of the war is to end on June 30, or subsequently if the decontrol of meat is later. A draft scheme is being prepared for the possible continuation of the undertaking under private-enterprise market conditions, the aim being to achieve transport savings.

Mr. P. J. R. Tapp, chairman of M.T.O.L., said on Tuesday that the scheme was being devised "in response to widespread requests." During its preparation the various trade interests affected would be consulted.

No commitment in connection with the continuation of the M.T.O.L. would be entered into until all operators concerned had been able to study the draft scheme and express their views. Mr. Tapp could give no indication when it was likely to be circulated.

Sir Cyril Birtchnell, former Deputy Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, joined the board of the company on Monday. At present the M.T.O.L. manage 7,100 meat vehicles of 77 contractors, including British Road Services and the Co-operative Wholesale Society, Ltd.

When the Ministry of Food's sponsorship of meat distribution ends, it is 'unlikely that the pattern of marketing will resemble that before the war. The proportion of home-killed to imported meat has risen. It is understood that at least one large company has -been formed to sell American canned meat after decontrol.
