Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

An Explanation

SINCE the publication of No. 3 of this series "Underinflation—External Effects," one of the leading tyre manufacturers has called attention to a " mistake " in the table of recommended pressures which appeared therein. It is pointed out that the pressures which I gave were the old recommendations, which were superseded in May, 1941, by a new table. The body which advocated the new pressfires was the Society Of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, and its recommendations were approximately 15 per cent. lower' than those previously in use. My reason for giving the old pressures was that I am convinced that the change made in 1941 was unwise: I am not alone in this point of view. There has been considerable agitation for the restoration of the old table, and I am informed that many people who actually sponsored the new pressures would be glad to see the old ones restored.
