As a first .5tep towards bringing the new Scheme into operation, prepara, tions have been made to set up between 70 and 80 road-haulage units at the main traffic centres so soon as the necessary financial and other arrangements have been made with the cOn

cerns provisionally selected as " con

trolled undertakings." A Memorandum dealing with these arrangepaents is being issued to them.

Preliminary instructions to controlled undertakings, unit controllers and .others eoncerned have been premed, and as acceptances are received operatiring will commence.

Following the workine, of the first batch of units, further selections will be made, and ..progress thericefofth should be rapid.

Hiring of vehicles from undertakings not controlled will follow the setting up of units. Terms and conditions of hire will be published shortly', and application forms made available atthe subdistrict offices of the Ministry's regional organizations. Applications will be vetted by the R.T.C.s.

Grouping of selected vehicles into road-haulage units will also he arranged by, or in conjunction with, Divisional Road Haulage Officers. The appointment of Divisional'and Area Officers is proceeding.
