Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Now owned by Indian giant Ashok Leyland, Czech truck maker Avia intends to recruit extra dealers to improve its UK coverage. "We want to boost the number handing sales from 1510 around 25," says Avia Trucks UK managing director Brian Rothwell.

Rothwell and his colleagues are happy to consider applications from franchised van dealers who want to move up the weight range. They also want to hear from franchised truck dealers whose manufacturer does not have light trucks in its line-up, and who want to add a budget-priced 7.5-tonner to their portfolio.

"What we offer would sit very nicely with the Hino franchise, for example," he says. 'We're also willing to talk to used truck specialists wanting to add a new vehicle franchise to their operation."

Aftermarket support is not being neglected either. "We aim to Increase the total of service outlets from 30 to between 50 and 60," says Rothwell.

The task should be made easier given that Avias are powered by familiar Cummins engines built in Darlington. The most recent chassis use axles made by Albion in Glasgow.

Avia registrations are modest at present. The UK arm intends to sell 120 this year, although that excludes any orders that might be placed by major fleets; vehicles have already been supplied to Royal Mail.

Sales are expected to build as the name becomes better known and the line-up widens. The support provided by Ashok Leyland — part of the giant Hinduja Group —should also help.

Avia will be displaying a new range of 12-tonners at the British Commercial Vehicle Show in April.
