Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• One of the world's largest container companies is believed to be building up a significant stake in leading trailer rental firm TIP.

American-based Itel Corporation has been buying TIP shares: many pundits believe the company may be close to a declarable stake.

However, TIP boss Jim Cleary is sceptical over Itel's intentions; "We have been aware of Itel's small shareholding for many months. There is no evidence in the share register that Itel has increased its shareholding or is considering extending its shareholding to make a bid for TIP."

Any American bid for TIP would probably have to top £200 million. The truck and trailer rental firm is valued at around 2185 million, and in the year to July 1989 it made 212.7 million on a turnover of £54.9 million.
