• Sowerby Bridge-based Travelmove was given an absolute discharge for an overloading offence after Huddersfield magistrates were told that a hire firm had changed a vehicle without telling the firm.

Travelmove pleaded guilty to overloading the front axle of a 7.5 tonne vehicle, which was carrying pallets of frozen chips, by 550kg, some 18.96%.

Defending, Gary Hodgson said the company hired a 7.5 tonne refrigerated vehicle on a regular basis to carry the chips, and it always loaded the same number of pallets. On this occasion the hire company had sent a different 7.5 tonne vehicle. When the unladen weights were subsequently checked it was found to be 955kg heavier than the vehicle usually supplied.
