• One of the first of the smaller independent operators to obtain a Ministry of Transport bus grant, is G. Howlett and Son (Cluorn) Ltd., of Quorn, near Loughborough. This company has a well-supported frequent service over a seven-mile route between Loughborough, Barrow-upon-Soar and Sileby, and recently acquired a Leyland Leopard PSU 3A/4R model, with a Willowbrook 55-seat bus body to replace an Albion Aberdonian.
According to Mr. Harry Noon, managing director of Howlett's, the purchase of the heavier-type bus, which cost £8,000, was made possible because of the MoT bus grant. Supplied by W. S. Yeates Ltd.. of Loughborough, the new bus has a Leyland 680 engine and Pneumocyclic semi-automatic transmission.
