• Cardiff-based potato wholesaler Edward England broke the law for the first time in its 150-year history because a mistake by the Department of Transport on one of itE vehicle's plating certificates led to an overloading offence, Pontypridd magistrates heard.

England admitted the overload, which was found when one of its vehicles was stopped in a spot check last October. Adrian Larby, for England, said the firm had not realised that the unladen weight shown for the vehicle was incorrect when it was bought in 1988. It was fined £100 with £15 costs.
