• A system that tells waiting passengers when the next bus will arrive is going into operation in September on London Buses' route 18, which runs from Sudbury in West London to King's Cross.
London Buses hopes the £700,000 system will be paid for within three years by attracting passengers who are put off by the uncertainty of bus timings.
If it succeeds, the Underground-style Countdown system could be extended to 100 or more London bus routes at a cost of £35m.
