GARRETT AiResearch has celebrated the production of the millionth turbocharger at its Skelmersdale, Lancashire plant.

This plant was opened in 1971 and currently produces turbochargers for commercial vehicles, plant, and industrial engines as well as for cars.

American-owned Garrett has expanded its European manufacturing facilities in response to increasing demand over the past three years with the opening of a new foundry at Waterford, in the Republic of Ireland and another assembly plant at Epinal, France.

Garrett's total worldwide production to date of turbochargers is reckoned to have exceeded 5.5 million.
