IN his two years as a haulier, Thomas I William Brown, Harle Syke, Lanes, lost £2,352 on the sale of two lorries. This was stated at his public examination before the Burnley Registrar, Mr. C. Waddington, last week, when be admitted gross liabilitieS of £2,407. He agreed with the Official Receiver, Mr. T. Tye, that there was nothing for unsecured creditors, to whom he owed £2,347.

Brown explained that he bought one vehicle on hire purchase in October, 1952, for £3,352. That vehicle cost him 11,400 in repairs, but from the end of 1953 he operated two vehicles for about a year. He lost £2,352 on the transaction

when he traded them towards the cost of another vehicle, costing £3,100, at the end of 1954. He sold the third lorry for £2,125 last December.

He told the Registrar that he had been ill, but admitted that he had known his position was unsound. The hearing was adjourned until April 15.

C-LICENSEES MUST BE PREPARED

QTEPS must be taken to ensure that the Traders' Road Transport Association are ready to contest any attempt to restrict the rights of C-licence. holders. This warning is contained in the Scottish Division's annual report, published this week.

The Division have joined with the Road Haulage Association and the Passenger Vehicle Operators' Association in studying Scottish road problems, and a report is to be sent to the Secretary of State for Scotland.

In an effort to improve recruitment, part-time canvassers are to cover the Central Scottish area.
