Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Bendix Heavy Vehicle Systems has launched a series of goods vehicle anti-lock braking seminars. They cover the latest EC legislation, and provide details of two newly developed anti-lock systems.

The AL-2 system is designed for all air braked commercial vehicle configurations and meets the requirements of EC directive 85/647, category L The micro-processor controlled AL/4T is for trailers and meets the requirements of 85/ 647 annex X.

"Diagnostics are of concern to the whole industry," according to Kurt Faxon, European vice-president and general manager.

Both the AL-2 and AL-4T have detailed diagnostic circuitry, constantly monitoring the electronic control unit, wiring errors, solenoid and sensor failures and battery voltage surges. Fault data is stored for workshop analysis.

The AL-2 has an in-cab display to warn of faults on the move, while the AL-4T uses in-cab or headboard displays. In addition, the AL-2 includes and intergrated traction control system to govern drive wheel slip and power transmission on slippery surfaces.

Both systems can be incorporated as part of original equipment or as a retro-fit installation.

The next anti-lock braking seminar will be held in Birmingham on 26 June with others to follow in Manchester and Edinburgh. Entry is by invitation only, but operators who want to attend and have not been asked can contact the Bendix public relations department on (0272) 671881.
