Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

condition and use of tyres in commercial vehicle fleets are now being offered by Semperit (UK). Engineers employed by the tyre manufacturer are offering to visit operators and make practical recommendations on how to get maximum life from their tyres.

The service is similar to that run in the UK by the West German tyre manufacturer, Continental, which owns 75% of Semperit (CM Workshop, April). That service, however, centres on free wheelbalancing and alignment on a regular basis and is available to Continental customers only.

Semperit's new diagnostic service is free to any road transport operator with a fleet of five vehicles or more, irrespective of whether he is a Semperit user or not According to the company, the matching of tyres to particular operational circumstances and the maintenance of control procedures are more important than many operators realise. The survey scheme is intended to drive that message home with individual operators of fleets in a practical way.

To help promote the scheme, Semperit is offering a free calculator for comparing the life-cost of tyres by reference to purchase price and mileage expectancy. The calculator can be obtained by writing to Ian Simrnonds at Semperit (UK) Ltd, St Paul's Avenue, Slough, Berkshire SL2 5EP (phone 0753 38711) — to whom requests for fleettyre surveys should also be addressed.
