• The present method of assessing vehicle licence duty on the basis of unladen weight is unsatisfactory, the Transport Association decided at its recent annual conference in Gleneagles. A sub-committee has been set up to look into alternatives and put forward recommendations.
Another sub-committee is investigating staff incentive schemes, because it is felt by TA that there should be much more use of incentive systems in establishing wages for drivers, for example.
The Association has also proposed that an h.g.v. driving licence should carry a photograph of the driver.
