AT Exeter last week Greenslades Tours Ltd. and Excelsior European Motorways, Bournemouth, appealed against a grant by the Traffic Commissioners at Bristol last January to Mr. and Mrs. G. S. Carnell and also to Mr. W. Gard, of Aylesbeare, of a licence to operate extended and Continental tours.

Mr. Gordon McMurtrie, for the appellants, recalled that the original grant at Exmouth was made jointly to Mr. and Mrs. Carnell and to Mr. Gard, who intended to trade in partnership as Continental and British Camping Holidays. The partnership did not come into being, however, and the Carnells and Gard subsequently made separate applications. Each opposed the other, but each application was granted. Mr. McMurtrie contended that each application should have been regarded as a new one and be supported by new evidence. No evidence of need was given. For Mr. Gard, Mr. R. J. McGahey, said that the Commissioners granted his application because they were satisfied with his evidence and knew that camping holidays were becoming more popular. The appeal was heard by Mr. J. R. Willis and the result will be announced later. The Carnells were not represented.
