H. J. F. Strange has been appointed road transport manager for Arthur Guinness Son and Co. (Park Royal) Ltd. to succeed D.J. Restrick who is leaving the company.

Mr. Strange was appointed to Park Royal in 1952 as deliveries manager of Thomas Allen Ltd. which delivered Guinness in London, and of Park Royal Transport Ltd., a Guinness subsidiary which delivered outside London. In 1955 Guinness took over the Park Royal activities of Thomas Allen and formed the subsidiary Guinness Transport Ltd. which became the road transport section of the distribution department inJanuary 1967.

Alan Jones, a Huddersfield busman. is one of 12 candidates for the £3,500-a-year post of assistant general secretary in the Transport and General Workers' Union. The list includes five national officers, five regional officials, and three rank and file members. Front runners are John Cousins, son of Frank Cousins; Harry Urwin, TGWU Midlands regional secretary; and Bob Davis, national general workers' group secretary. The final selection will be made at next month's meeting of the union executive. Mr. Jones came fourth in the recent election for a successor to Mr. Cousins as general secretary. It was won by his namesake Jack Jones, general secretary-designate until Mr. Cousins retires in September.

C. McMichael, 42, has been appointed divisional transport manager for Redland Tiles Ltd., Reigate. Surrey. Mr. McMichael, who will working from Leighton Buzzard, is joining fiedland from Blot Services Ltd. where he was general manager of a subsidiary engaged in commercial fleet contract hire and service. Prior to this he has held senior appointments in BRS and Stamford Transport Ltd.

E. S. Wright has been elected chairman of the ETA's Hereford area; G. J. J. Lewis is deputy chairman; K. C. Hole, I. J. Vale vice-chairmen: P. Wright secretary.

Frantisek Rezabek ICzechoslovakia) has been elected president of the Inland Transport Committee of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. Albert Buzziouattrini (Austria) has been elected vice-president.
