PRELIMINARY ARRANGEMENTS.

The Sixth Annual Parade of Commercial Motor Vehieles and Tractors, organized by the Commercial Motor Users Association, with the object of encouraging drivers, by means of money prizes and other awards, to Lake a personal interest in the driving and condition of their vehicles, and to run them without accidran, will be held in Louden on Whit Monday; 2701 May, 1912.

His Majesty rite King has again been pleased Lo become Patron of the Parade, and the organization of the rarade, which is supported be!b by the Royal Automobile Club and the Society of _Motor Marintaetairers and Traders, is in the hands of a Special Parade Committee. Several makers have contributed donations to a Special Prize Fund, to be divided, at the diseretion of the Judges, between the drivers of vehicles of their respective makes ; allied traders and tire manufacturers have made donations upon a like understanding. The leading owners and users are supporting the Parade, and it is anticipated that there wilt be between 250 and 350 entries to compete for the prizes—over 2300 in amount—offered by the Ast.-oeiation.

ENTRIES.—ENTRIES (WITHOUT PENALTY) CLOSE ON 1ST 'JANUARY, 1912. Late entries will be accepted as follows:—

Up to the 31st March, 1912, on payment of a fine of one guinea per vehicle • from 31st March to 27Lli April, 1912. on payment of a fine of two guineas per vehicle.

Members of the C.M.U.N., whose subscriptions for it have been paid, will be allowed to enter any number of their vehicles or tractors (whether steam or petrol) free, and non-members on payment of a fee of 10s. per vehicle, on or before the 1st January, 1912. No demonstration or semi-demonstration vehicles will be eligible for the Parade.

INSPECTION.—The vehicles will not be examined on Parade, except in the case of entries for Engineers' and Owners' Prizes, but the store-sheds, drivers, and vehicles will be previously inspected by art Engineer appointed by the Association_ The inspection will commence on 1st. January, 1912, and will consist of an unnotified visit to each store-shed in the early morning, a general viva veer examination of the drivers by the Engineer, and an inspection of the vehicles under their working conditions, and of the hogs and records.

MARKINGS.—Marks will be allotted for each driver's personal qualifications, the total mileage,

weekly mileage, and age of machine, the nature of the work, the intensity of the work, and the general condition of the vehicle, due to the.driver, and not due to the owner or due to construction.

PARADE AND PRIZES.The Association is endeavouring to arrange for the Parade to be held in an open space where all the vehicles can be collected

together. The vehicles will muster on the Parade Ground, at 10 a.m., on Whit Monday, 27th May 1912, and will be dispersed about t p.m. after the award ef die following prizes:— (1) DRIVERS' SPECIAL PRIZES.--Three Special Prizes of 21.0, £7, and ,£5, respectively, will he awarded for the best results in a written

technical examination. These Prizes are quite independent of the Drivers' Prizes referred to in the following paragraph, but, to be eligible, drivers and their vehicles must be entered for both Nos. I and 2.

(2) DRIVERS' PRIZES.---Not less than 2200, sub-divided into cash Prizes of 22, 21 10s., and 21.

(3) ENGINEERS' PRIZES.—A Cup or Cups will be offered for competition amongst Engineers, for the best vehicle or group of vehicles showing the best condition on Parade.

(4) OWNERS' PRIZE. — THE ComitaxmAr, MOTOR Challenge Cup will again be offered for competition in the Team Section. The judging will be on the result of the Engineer's report, with a percentage of marks for method of presentation and general appearfi..nce of the team" on Parade.

EXHIBITION.—If arrangements can be made, the drivers will be given tickets for some popular Exhibition as near as possible to the Parade Centre. If such arrangements are impossible, a sum of money will be given to each non-winning driver by way of consolation.

DRTVERS.—Drivers may be changed after the date of entry up to the 1st May. 1912, provided one week's notice is given to the C.M.I.T.A. After the 1st May, no change of driver will be allowed, but, in the event of a driver being absent—through illness or other cause —on the date. of the Parade, his vehicle may be brought to the Parade by another driver, in which circumstances only the man originally named will be eligible for such prizes as he or his vehicle may earn.
