Bromley (Kent) TOIVIL Council, at its last meeting, resolved to apply to the fire offices for a grant towards the expense of the new all-motor fire station and appliances.

Barnes U.D.C. is now inviting tenders for a motor fire-engine with firstaid compressed-air cylinder, and pumps capable of discharging 330 gallons of water per minute at a pressure of 1.60 lb. per sq. in. The machine must carry 1,200 ft. of hose, ten men, the usual accessories, and a 50 ft. escape, whilst there is a clause requiring, tenderers to submit an offer for the Council's existing steam fire-en

gine. A sob-committee recommended the purchase of two engines, but the Council has decided to bay only one.

Barry Corporation. whose intentions we reported on the 9th December last, at a joint meeting of the Health and Gas and Water Committees, on the 11th inst.. resolved to apply to the Local Government Board for sanction to a loan for the purchase of a motor fire-engine.

Lincoln has decided to purchase only one motor fire-engine for the time being, and its choice has fallen upon a Dennis engine with 350-gallon turbine pump. a 35 ft. telescopic ladder, hose-box, four extincteurs, and seating accommodation for ten men. The contract price is RSSO.

Fire Drill for Boy. Scouts,

On Saturday afternoon last, the first of a series of fire drills for boy scoots was instituted at Merryweather's works, Greenwich, under the superintendence of Mr. Rushforth, chief officer of the Merryweather fire brigade. Following the drill, the scouts (the Richmond senior troop) were instructed in the manipulation of the appliance, including a " Hatfield pump, and three scouts, acting under instructions, directed the two jets to a considerable height. The Richmond corps already possesses a small fireescape, and Mr. J. Compton Merryweather has promised the loan of a manual engine. A text-book on the matter is being issued.

L.C.C. Expenditure.

The London County Council has accepted the tender of Thomas Tilling. Ltd., to supply on hire for the use of the Chief Officer of the Fire Brigade a motorcar for three months at ..€7 1Cks. a week, on the basis of a mileage limit of 100 miles per week, the Council to provide the driver, garage accommodation, petrol and lubricants for the ear, and to take the risk of accidents tlwrewith.

The Fire Brigade Committee states that it hopes shortly to he in a position to advise the Council whether or not, in making permanent arrangements, it would be better to purchase a car. The use by the Chief Officer of a motorcar will enable one pair of horses at the chief fire station (costing £140 a year) and the carriage now in use (costing £52 a year) to be dispensed with.
