Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The clouds that ruined summer weather do have one silver lining they have curtailed the

traditional summer sales slump in the light CV market, according to Alex Wright, CV sales director at Manheim Auctions.

Manheim Auctions has experienced a shorter-than-usual seasonal lull, probably due to the wet weather persuading buyers and vendors to stay at work. With stock levels rising the market is picking up and looks like it will remain healthy for the next few months.

Demand for late-year, low-mileage vehicles is still outstripping supply, keeping prices high. However, older vehicles arc also achieving up to £3,000, even though supply is good.

The car-derived sector is extremely buoyant with vehicles in good condition attracting strong bids. For example, a 35,000-mile Citroen Berlingo 600 on an 02/02 plate recently sold for £2,450 (f275 above book price), while a Vauxhall Astra LS 1.7CDTI on an 04/54 plate made £3,400 (f...375 above book price).

However, for some reason the Renault Kangoo is out of step examples are fetching £100-200 below book value.

We are seeing an increase in stock levels in the small panel van sector: as usual good-condition vehicles are in high demand. A recent selection of 20wplate non-white metallic Vauxhall Vivaros with twin side loading doors and mileages varying from 30,000-50,000 sold for £5001.000 above book price.

Silver service

Manheim Gloucester offered a batch of Silver 04/04-plate Nissan Primastars with air-con and mileage between 50,000 and 80,000;they attracted five or six bidders on each van.A 78.000-mile Primastar sold for £5,975 ( £1,325 above book price). with a 55,000-mile van making £1,450 above book price.

Our Coventry site recently sold the first used Volkswagen Transporter Sportline. We believe the Sportline, the latest model in the popular Transporter range, will take off as the new one vehicle fits all' solution for small business users who want a vehicle that is ideal for fulfilling day-to-day business needs and smart enough to double up as family or leisure transport at the weekend.

Just as the double-cab pickup has been a huge success with small businesses and consumers alike, so the Sportline with its distinctive styling, chrome rails and high-spec cabin is destined to spearhead a new trend in 'business and pleasure' CVs. The Tornado Red SportlineT30 short-wheelbase TDI 172hp panel van sold for £18,900(110.6% of the CAP`clean' price).

In the larger panel van sector up to three tonnes the Ford Transit 260 and 280 are still very popular among buyers, with condition more important than mileage.

Large panel vans over three tonnes are plentiful, with high-mileage, scruffy vehicles struggling to sell .Luckily for buyers, their favourite vehicle, the Ford Transit,is in plentiful supply and even a very high mileage van in good condition can reach its book price, as Manheirri saw recently when a 117,0(X)-mile FordTransit 330 LWB Medium roof 123hp 04/53 plate sold for £4,550.

Lutons in demand With not enough Lutons around to satisfy demand we are seeing some high prices being paid. For example, Manheim Gloucester recently offered a Ford Transit 350 RWD TDCI 13.5 GRP Luton on an 05/04 plate with 20,000 miles. It sold for £12,300 (£1,650 above book price).

Bidding in the tipper/dropside sector is still brisk with most examples finding homes. A recent batch of below-average-condition Vauxhall Movano dropsiders were bought for conversion into single car transporters.

We are finding the 4x4 sector is volatile. Most vehicles will attract a bid, but spec and colour play a big part in how well a vehicle performs. However, this trend does not always apply to Land Rovers. Even though newer models come in bright colours with a high spec, FACT FILE the older models still have a faithful following, Nothing seems to as shown recently at 1VIanheim Gloucester dent demand for the when a 97/R-plate 110 Defender Hard Top 300 all-conquering Ford TDI with 49,000 miles sold for £5,200 (£1,000 Transit— and buyers above book price). are put off by mileage
