Peter Steventon, P&O's director of tanker logistics, says all drivers can try a two-month trial period working under the new package before they have to accept it formally. "Over the next few weeks drivers will have to make a decision on whether they want to stay and have a trial or whether they leave," he says, adding that the deadline for making a decision depends on the driver's length of service.
The Transport & General Workers Union says the deal amounts to an 11% pay cut, but the company disagrees.
