on your recent article regarding the events that took place at the Truck Grand Prix at Silverstone and your misinformed comments (w/e August 30, 1986).

I must make it very clear that DAF Trucks do not sponsor a vehicle in truck racing, the Barry Sheene vehicle is owned and raced by Sherwood DAF Trucks, of Nottingham.

The incident with regards to Mr David Allen's truck is unfortunate. It was on Saturday that the intercooling hose was issued by the DAFaid dealer covering the Silverstone area (Sherwood do not cover this area) for which Mr Allen was happy to pay.

The second incident on the Sunday regarded a head set and the same procedure via the DAFaid system brought the head set to the pit area As a goodwill gesture the local dealer offered a discount, Mr Allen decided not to purchase the part and subsequently put the sign on his vehicle.

We acted very quickly when contact was made and got the part to the vehicle in question, in these circumstances the dealer fitter must receive money for the service carried out. If Barry Sheene's truck had broken down Sherwood would have had to pay for their particular part!

Whilst the unfortunate incident did cause some attention, we still consider our Back-up service is the best in the business. It is with regret that at times the press do not take total regard for both sides of the story and obtain the correct facts.
