imposing a border tax on lorattempt to divert more goods about the amount the Swiss will charge to encourage the switch to the railways.
Austria already levies a border tax on lorries to help pay for the upkeep of its roads, in view of the exceptionally heavy goods traffic which crosses the country.
West Germany is concerned about the Swiss plan, and Finance Minister Hans Natthofer was in Berne last week to warn that a move of this sort by national Government had an effect on the whole European economy.
