Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz AG., c Seddon-Deutz Ltd., Bentley Avenue, Stake Hill Estate, Middleton, near Manchester.

TWO of the four vehicles exhibited on this stand are tractive units while the others are a 6 x 6 dump truck and a fire appliance which is one of six supplied to Glasgow.

The two tractive units are the Magirus 210 D 16 FS which has a 230 bhp gross V8 air-cooled diesel engine and is plated for 36 tons; this can be increased to 38 tons if larger tyres and wheels are fitted. Examples of the model have been in use in Britain for over 12 months and the German design is modified to meet British requirements, the main change being the shortening of the wheelbase to 9ft 10in, and the incorporation of a three-line braking system. The engine drives through a 12-speed splitter gearbox and the driving axle is a double-reduction type with secondary gearing in the hubs.

The cab on the 210 D is the flat-front design which was seen at the last Commercial Motor Show and the all-steel unit tilts through a hydraulically operated system for access to the power unit. The inside of the cab is well fitted out and the same basic structure is used on the second tractive unit model on the stand except that this has a sleeper-cab version. Another difference is that the 235 D 22 FS is a six-wheeler with double-drive bogie and left-hand drive. The engine is the 235 bhp gross V10 engine made by Deutz but the transmission includes the same 12-speed splitter gearbox. The rear bogie has the same type of axles as the four-wheeler, suspension being by a two-spring system and whereas the four-wheeler has full air brakes, the 6 x 4 has air-assisted-hydraulic braking but still with a three-line system which complies with current and anticipated legislation.

The dump truck exhibited is the 210 D 26 AK, 6 x 6 and this has a V8 230 bhp gross engine driving through a six-speed gearbox and a two-speed transfer box to the axles. The axles are hub-reduction type and the model is suitable for operation at 26 tons gross solo and in addition it can pull a trailer weighing up to 12 tons for a gross combination weight of 38 tons.

The 150 D 14 FL chassis equipped as a water-tender-escape for Glasgow has a 156 bhp V6 engine and five-speed ZF gearbox. Bodywork on the exhibit which includes a crew cab was built by SMT Sales and Service Ltd., Edinburgh. A 350gal water tank is installed for first-aid use and the main water pump has an output of 1,000gal per min. A 50tt wheeled escape ladder mounted on the vehicle can be detached and used independently.
