Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Rover Co. Ltd., Solihull, Warwicks.

A SELECTION of Land-Rover vehicles ranging from a special military version which can be stripped of much of its bodywork for transport by air, to fire engine and ambulance conversions is shown on this stand.

The latest model from Rover is the 109in. wheelbase Land-Rover with a 1-ton payload. This version is powered by the 2.6-litre six-cylinder petrol engine and a main feature of it is that it can carry its 1-ton payload both onand off-the-road. The basic 109in. Land-Rover has a load rating of 1,8001b across country and 2,000lb on roads. To cope with the extra payload, the new model has larger tyres, heavy-duty suspension, servo-assisted brakes and bigger and heavier-duty front and rear axles. To give improved low-speed performance, the transfer box ratios have been modified and in addition to these changes a lower-ratio steering box is fitted.

The military Land-Rover has a wheelbase of 88in. and a load capacity of 0.5 tons. It has been developed in conjunction with the Fighting Vehicles Research and Development Establishment to meet special airlift requirements of the services and while it has been seen at military displays, this is the first time that it has appeared at the Commercial Motor Show. The hood, body, sides, doors, windscreen, bumpers and spare wheel can be removed more easily than normal for air transport and the model is expected to succeed the normal 88in. Land-Rover as the standard 4 x 4 in its load class with the British Army. Overseas armies have also shown interest in the model.

Altogether Rover has 10 exhibits, three of the remainder having 88in. wheelbase and the rest the 109in. There are shortand long-wheelbase station wagons and a second of the 88in. models is the standard design with canvas hood. But the other short wheelbase design is fitted out for police use and each of the remaining long-wheelbase Land-Rovers is equipped for special purposes. There is a recovery vehicle, one with a Hymac hydraulic platform, an ambulance and a fire appliance.
