Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A Type of Passenger Vehicle which is Representatiye of Present-day Practice.

AN accompanying illustration depicts one of a fleet of up-to-date low loadline single-deck buses which has lately been put into service by the municipal authorities of the German town of

Bielefeld. The chassis is the latest type built by the Nationale Automobil Gesellschaft of Oberschoneweide, Berlin, and a feature of it is the extension of the chassis beyond the front axle to an extent which enables the engine to be mounted forward of the steering wheels, thus increasing the passengercarrying capacity. The motive power is supplied by a four-cylindered engine having a bore of 120 mm. and a stroke of 170 Dam., and it develops 45-50 h.p. at a normal speed of only 900 rpm. The transmission is through a fabric-faced cone clutch and

The body of the vehicle, which has seating accommodation for 45 passengers and standing room for nine persons, is the work of the Waggonfabrik Gesellschaft, of Uerdingen-am-Rhein, a concern which is, we understand, meeting with considerable success in the building of steel motorbus bodies.

The chassis laas a wheelbase of 14 ft. 1 in. and front and rear tracks of 5 ft. 61 ins. and 5 ft. 71 ins. respectively. The extreme length of the body is 24 ft. 5 ins, and the overall width 7 ft. 6 ins. The floor of the bus is 2 ft. 41 ins, from the ground. As will be seen from the picture, the driver's seat is located at the near side of the engine and is entirely enclosed. The equipment includes Bosch electric lighting and engine-starting set, special direction indicators at both sides of the front of the vehicle and a front collision fender. The wheels are of the steeldisc type and are shod with low-pressure pneumatic tyres, twins being provided at the rear. The weight of the complete vehicle without passengers is 5 tons 12 cwt., of which the chassis is responsible for 3 tons 6 cwt.
