For Furniture Transport.

Frequently of considerable bulk and yet comparatively light in weight, furniture requires special consideration from van builders. An example of a very capacious type built by Dennis Brothers, Ltd., of Guildford, to meet the requirements of a South Wales user is shown in a picture appearing on this page. The chassis is a standard pneumatic-tyred 30-cwt. Dennis. The wooden sides of the body are 3 ft. high and detachable, as is the hinged toil

board, which may be supported by chains. Above the sides is erected a superstructure of five detachable hoopsticks, which support a canvas sheet. The height from the floor to the top of the body is 8 ft. The actual area of the floor is 461 sq. ft., so that considerable space is available for stowing goods.

Satisfaction from Pirelli Tyres.

Pirelli tyres have achieved much popularity among commercial-vehicle users, ,and equipment of this make is being employed on a large number of goods and passenger-carryine vehicles. Pirelli, Ltd., 144, Queen Victoria Street, London, E.C.4, often receives evidence of the high mileages which are obtained from tyres of its make, and amongst recent gratifying reports which have come to hand the following can be mentioned :—The City Omnibus Co. has used Pirelli single solids and G-type twin solid tyres on its double-deck buses for the past three years, and has found them to be remarkably free from skidding. The unusually high mileage of 69,700 has been obtained from an individual tyre.

High mileages are also obtained from Pirelli semi-pneumatic air-core tyres, and in one instance tyres of this kind fitted on the rear wheels of a type Leyland chassis with a heavy 26seater bus body completed between 60,000 and 70,000 miles, and it is stated that even then replacement was not necessary.

A satisfied user of Pirelli semi-pneumatic tyres claims to have reduced his, chassis repairs costs by-30 per cent. since changing over from solid tyres.

Carrying Baths by Lorry.

One of the most recent deliveries made by the Associated Daimler Co., Ltd., is shown in an accompanying illustration. The vehicle has been specially designed for the purpose of carrying enamelled iron baths, which the owuer found could not safely be sent by rail owing to the fact that they often became badly chipped during transit. This lorry will carry 50 to 60 baths in absolute safety.

The body, which has particularly high sides, is divided into four portions by vertical divisions, one of which runs from front to rear and the other from side to side. The baths are stacked on end, inside one another, and are protected by hemp rope. In each of the four divisions a device is incorporated which wedges the baths in position and prevents any movement during the time they are being transported. On each side of the vehicle, immediately behind the driver's cab, lockers are disposed in which bath

fittings can he carried. .

The chassis, which is mounted on Michelin pneumatic tyres, is an Associated Daimler Model 503, which, as our readers may know, is of the driverbeside-engine-type, and designed primarily for passenger work.
