AN application by East Yorkshire Motor Services, Ltd., to vary routes through Driffield, was considered by the Yorkshirz Traffic Commissioners, at Driffield last week. Mr. Allen Hornby, clerk to Driffield U.D.C., said that four routes suggested by E.Y.M.S. to establish a closer link between road and rail services in the town, were all open to objection. The hearing, which opened at Bridlington on January 27, had been adjourned to consider alternative routes.

The adoption of any of the four alternative proposals would lead to wholesale traffic dislocation, dangerous conditions and increased use of district roads quite unsuitable for the purpose, stated Mr. Hornby.

The applicationwas supported by a "hit and miss" census taken on one particular day, which, he said, proved nothing. "My council wish me to say that if and when the new by-pass is completed, it might be possible to consider such an application more sympathetically," he added.

Cllr. James Grinstead, chairman, Driffield Housing and Highways Committee, said that the travel needs of people in the Driffield district were adequately met by the present services.

The decision will be announced in a few days.
